Old Town

In a quaint old town littered by modernity
Precocious teens squander reality
Filling shallow lives with unnecessary gimmicks
Loosing values alongside savings in a world filled by frivolity
Unable to comprehend truth behind ostentation

Seeking only those who can stand the pace
Passing by leftovers, genuine yet poor
Unable to look past their conscience, so blank
Fulfilled as a star in a meaningless opera
Ignoring truth in favor of selfishness

Rushing daily behind common sense and financial awareness
Obstructed by a will to join insincerity and crass
Careless abandonment of a casual upbringing
Keeping possessions at the forefront of their new religion
Ignoring simplicity for the sake of capitulation

Herded into the cattle trucks of this hypocritical society
Let loose to enforce bragging rights
Complete in their disregard for respect and admiration
Looking only for a fix to enforce popularity
Streaking awkwardly down their road to disenchantment
